After a tough year for the Education Catering industry and the country, Mellors Catering Services are excited to announce that our award winning Big Red Bus is ready to get back on the road again!

This traditional double decker London bus is kitted out with a kitchen facility, serving hatch and upstairs dining area, as well as an outside dining area with music. Covid restrictions and school closures have meant that our fantastic vintage treasure has been sitting idle, waiting to be allowed out on the road again.

The bus will be visiting Primary schools across the North of England to provide an extra special dining experience to Mellors customers.

Mellors have put in place robust COVID-19 safety procedures in each of our units and offices to ensure all of our staff and customers are safe and these will of course be followed aboard the bus too. Our bus driver extraordinaire Carol Regan is also a Mellors COVID Safety Champion. These positions have been taken up by a number of staff in each of our catering units to ensure each and every Mellors team member follows understands and follows the rules surrounding food service during the pandemic.

Since its launch over two years ago, the Big Red Bus has served tens of thousands of meals to our customers throughout the Midlands, North Wales and the North of England. It’s just one of the activities Mellors offer at our schools and business catering sites to provide extra excitement to the dining experience.

Mellors Head of Nutrition & Food Development, Danielle Watkins commented:

“We’re constantly looking for cool new ways to engage with our customers. We aim to make the dining experience as fun as possible and the Mellors Big Red Bus is no exception. Our bus driver Carol can’t wait to get back on the road and provide this fantastic experience to children after such a difficult year.”
