We’re pleased to announce the Mellors Golden Whisk Award is back for its 7th year!

Open to all Mellors unit-based staff, this highly popular award is a fantastic opportunity to get creative and celebrate our culinary talent in one fantastic competition, spanning over 7 exciting weeks.

This years’ theme was put up for vote, with staff being able to submit their ideas and suggestions on "Grapevine" - Mellors new communications tool.

Votes were cast and by unanimous decision, the theme “Waste Not, Want Not” was chosen. The theme aims to help reduce food waste, cut costs and in turn be more environmentally concious by turning leftover food destined to be waste into something we can all love and enjoy!

The competition will take place over 7 weeks and all Mellors unit staff are encouraged to take part!

Sponsored by Unilever, successful entrants will progress through a series of local and regional heats, before the penultimate finals which are held at Cheshire Cookery School in Manchester.

Danielle Watkins, Head of Nutrition and Food Development said: “This is a great opportunity for our staff to show off their talent and to have the kudos of their dish being re-created across the estate.

As an award-winning, family-run business, we have the flexibility to do this as we don’t dictate what menus are served at every site.  Our clients like that we can provide a bespoke service allowing our talented catering managers to provide what the customers want, rather than one size fits all approach.  We also want to encourage our staff to take ownership of their sites and allow their creative juices to flow; giving them this chance and recognition will help motivate them and to show off their skills to other staff members.”
