Staff from across Mellors Catering Services attended the much anticipated annual Mega Day event on Sunday 12th March 2023.

More than 150 attendees from units across the North of England came together for an exciting day of training and idea sharing which was held at Lancashire Manor Hotel, Skelmersdale.

The day was a fantastic opportunity for staff across Mellors including our amazing Catering Managers, Area Managers, Operations team and support office staff to network, meet suppliers and share best practice.

The theme of the day was “Game Shows” with sessions throughout the day incorporating a special twist.

The day commenced with a warm welcome to delegates over fresh coffee and pastries, prepared by Mellors Executive Chef, Mike Stroud followed by an introduction to the day from Tony Trainor, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mark Timmerman. Together the pair gave an overview of what to expect from the day and some key company updates to delegates in Lancashire Manor’s impressive Great Hall.

Throughout the morning, delegates benefitted from a series of sessions covering a range of topics from different departments including HR, Marketing, Operations, and Food Development. Topics included our new communications tool called “Grapevine”, cooking demonstrations highlighting the importance of fresh ingredients as apposed to shop bought, food costs and how we can help reduce these, Paperwork training and the power of “feeding-forward” rather than “feedback”.

Each session followed within the gameshow theme and required delegates to get involved, contribute and participate in activities centered around gameshows such as The Voice, “Have I Got News For You”, “The Price is Right” and more.

A delicious lunch was serviced to delegates who were able to sample and taste new food concept “A Taste of Asia” which is due to be rolled out to units to help encourage them to try new and exciting flavours.

After lunch there was an opportunity to speak to a range of suppliers in attendance at the trade fair, culminating of 13 suppliers over various food categories including Ralph Livesey, Bidfood, Dunsters and Quorn to name a few. It was great to have such a varied mixture of food groups and wealth of knowledge being shared.

Tony Trainor, Chief Executive Officer at Mellors Catering Services said “We’re delighted so many of our Mellors family could join us for this annual event.  The day was a fantastic opportunity to come together sharing best practice, improve knowledge,  have some fun and build new friendships.

Matt Jaques, National Account Manager from Dole said, “It’s been a brilliant day and a great opportunity to engage with sites. I would definitely recommend the event to others.

Jo Fray, Marketing Manger at Pasta King said “We really enjoyed Mellors Mega Day and found it very engaging being able to have conversations across all functions about the range of products we offer”.

The day concluded with prizes being awarded, followed by some overall learnings and reflections from the day.

It was fantastic to have so many of our brilliant Mellors team together under one roof and we look forward to welcoming future attendees in 2024!
